TL:DR SUMMARY
Any MGA member can come play, you just might not be playing for The Belt. If that’s cool with you, stop reading now and go purchase a package.
AM I ELIGIBLE TO PLAY IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP?
If you’ve played as a competitor in at least 3 MGA events this year and have a minimum of 5 career events on your profile by the time MGAWC26 Round 1 begins, you’re eligible. If you do not meet these requirements, you are not eligible and cannot play in the MGAWC, BUT… if you have an active MGA membership you can still purchase a package and come play as a non-competing guest.
WTF DOES “QUALIFIED” MEAN THEN?
It means you not only met the “Eligible” qualifications, but you either won a tournament in your home chapter or finished in the Top 10 on your Chapter’s money list. If you’re in that rarified air, you are guaranteed to be competing for The Belt at Revere right from your first shank of Round 1.
I GUESS I DIDN’T QUALIFY THEN…
It’s OK! As long as you played in at least 3 events this year (and have at least 5 career MGA events), you’re still ELIGIBLE (see above if you have the memory of a goldfish) and there’s still a chance you’ll be able to compete for The Belt.
SO HOW DO I QUALIFY?
All eligible, but unqualified players, will be competing in the LOIQ (Last Opportunity In Qualification) in Round 1. They will play their Round 1 as terribly as they normally would if they were trying to win The Belt. At the end of Round 1, the top 50% (and ties) of players in the LOIQ field, win qualified status and get to compete for The Belt on day 2!
The bottom half of the LOIQ field will be coming back on day 2 to play a fun, zero-pressure round of golf, because they failed to qualify and are no longer competing for The Belt.
WHAT’S THIS “BORN HAIRY” I HEARD ABOUT?
The Born Hairy was created in 2019 because we had so many damn people wanting to come, we had to create another place for them to play. We are capping the field at 288 in 2026, so there is no need for the Born Hairy this year.
