TL:DR SUMMARY
Any MGA member can come play, you just might not be playing for The Belt. If that’s cool with you, stop reading now and go purchase a package.
AM I ELIGIBLE TO PLAY IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP?
If you’ve played as a competitor in at least 3 MGA events this year and have a minimum of 5 career events on your profile by the time MGAWC24 round 1 begins, you’re eligible. If you do not meet these requirements, you are not eligible and cannot play in the MGAWC, BUT… you can play in the Born Hairy (more details on this event down below)!
WTF DOES “QUALIFIED” MEAN THEN?
It means you not only met the “Eligible” qualifications, but you either won a tournament in your home chapter or finished in the Top 10 on your Chapter’s money list. If you’re in that rarified air, you are guaranteed to be competing for The Belt at Revere.
I GUESS I DIDN’T QUALIFY THEN…
It’s OK! As long as you played in at least 3 events this year (and have at least 5 career MGA events), you’re still ELIGIBLE (see above if you have the memory of a goldfish) and there’s a chance you’ll be able to compete for The Belt.
Once all the Qualified registrants are accounted for, if there are less than 288 of them, we will continue cramming in the top available “eligible” players until Revere is full. You must buy an MGAWC package to be considered for one of these spots.
First to make the cut will be all the “eligible” registrants who finished 11th on their Chapter Money List. Then all the “eligible” registrants who finished 12th, then 13th and so on, until Revere is full. Last year the final cutoff was 17th on the Chapter Money List! That means everyone who signed up and was 17th or higher on their Chapter Money List was playing for The Belt.
There are no guarantees however, since we don’t know how many qualified players will register.
If you buy a package and don’t make the cut, you will be playing in the Born Hairy Tour Championship.
SO WHAT’S THE BORN HAIRY THEN?
The Born Hairy was created in 2019 and was a massive success. It is every bit as fun as the WC and the top 16 finishers in the Born Hairy earn a Qualified spot for the next MGAWC! It’s played on the same days as the WC (at a comparable course) and then everyone comes back together Tuesday night for a giant, raucous awards ceremony!
